Botswana Hosts Inaugural Bond Market Non-Dealer Roadshow

A two day event

Good morning 😃🌞☀️ let’s get into it

The Government of Botswana has launched its first-ever Domestic Non-Dealer Bond Market Roadshow, a two-day event held at the Bank of Botswana headquarters in Gaborone beginning on 2 September 2025.( dates may be wrong, since the announcement was yesterday). The roadshow marks an important milestone in the country’s efforts to deepen its capital markets and strengthen dialogue between policymakers and investors.

The event opened with an address by Vice President and Minister of Finance, Mr. Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, followed by welcome remarks from Mr. Cornelius Dekop, Governor of the Bank of Botswana. A key highlight was a presentation on the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme delivered by PEMANDU Associates, setting the tone for discussions around the country’s economic strategy and financing needs.

Unlike traditional roadshows that focus on marketing specific bond issuances, a non-dealer roadshow is designed to build long-term relationships and gather feedback. More than 40 institutions, including pension funds, asset managers, life insurers, primary dealers, and financial institutions, were invited to participate in one-on-one and group meetings with the Ministry of Finance, the Debt Management Office, the Botswana Stock Exchange, and the Botswana Bond Market Association.

The purpose of these engagements is twofold. First, it allows investors to better understand Botswana’s fiscal direction and policy priorities, giving them greater clarity and confidence in the bond market. Second, it enables the Ministry of Finance to hear investor perspectives on market conditions, auction structures, and future bond issuance strategies.

A stronger, more transparent domestic bond market carries significant benefits for Botswana’s economy. It provides government with a reliable and cost-effective way to raise capital for infrastructure and development projects, reduces reliance on external borrowing, and offers institutional investors access to stable, long-term investment opportunities. Over time, these improvements can help build a deeper financial sector that supports economic diversification and transformation.

This inaugural non-dealer roadshow reflects Botswana’s commitment to engaging more closely with the investment community. It is both a signal of confidence and an invitation—an effort to ensure that as the country advances its economic transformation agenda, investors remain active partners in shaping the future of Botswana’s bond market.
